Academic English students

If you are coming to Heriot-Watt University to study Academic English (pre-sessional or foundation English) during summer 2021, accommodation is available on campus for the 6-week course only where you will find a friendly, welcoming community.

Living on campus, you'll find it easy to get to know people and very convenient: all our excellent facilities are within easy reach, including Oriam, Scotland's Sports Performance Centre., the Student’s Union, the Chaplaincy, a Muslim Prayer room, as well as cafés, lots of catering outlets and a shop. There is also a Health Service and a dentist. Living on campus also means that you will have no utility bills or travel expenses to worry about and you are only minutes from your lectures.

Cost: £147.00 per week

How to apply

You must have a unconditional firm offer to study at the University and firmly accepted the offer before you can apply for accommodation.

Applications open on 1 June and close on 25 June 2021.

Please apply as soon as you have accepted your offer. We aim to accommodate all applicants but we allocate rooms on a first-come-first-served basis and rooms cannot be guaranteed.

Please note this application is for your summer accommodation only while you study on your academic English programme.

To apply for your accommodation from September onwards, you will need to apply again once you have an unconditional firm offer for your full-term programme for the 2021/2022 academic year.

Please note that applications for full term accommodation are done online, and details of how to apply will follow at a later date. 

Arrival information

When you arrive, please report to the University main reception with a copy of your accommodation contract or booking confirmation. You will then be given your keys and directions to your hall.

The University main reception is open Monday to Friday (08:00 to 20:00) and Saturday and Sunday (09:00 to 17:00). Please let us know if you are arriving outside these times.

Please check the start date and time of your contract before you arrive, as your room will not be available before the date and time stated.

Off-campus accommodation

If you prefer to live in the city centre, please contact City Room Rentals who provide a good selection of affordable purpose-built student accommodation in the city. 

Costs include all bills and unlimited Wi-Fi. You can also buy a bedding pack (duvet, pillows, sheets). To book or make enquiries, please contact City Room Rentals direct.
