If you submit an application to attend a graduation ceremony and subsequently receive information which indicates you are ineligible for graduation, you will be entitled to a refund of any payments you made.

Tickets are non-refundable except in the circumstance outlined above.

If you submit an application to attend a graduation and subsequently change your order to ‘’absentia’’, you may not receive a refund for any tickets purchased.

Requests for refunds on gown hire fees should be made directly with the gown suppliers.


Heriot-Watt University will use its best endeavours to keep to the scheduled dates, times and venues for graduation ceremonies. However, due to circumstances outside the control of the University, ceremonies may be delayed, relocated to another venue or postponed. In some instances, where a ceremony is over-subscribed, arrangements may be made for an additional ceremony to take place. Where any of these circumstances occur, Heriot-Watt University is not responsible for any inconvenience or costs that may be occasioned by such event.

Publication of Names/Awards

In accordance with the University's Academic Regulations the University publishes the name of each graduate and their degree award in the graduation programme and also releases this information to the Scotsman newspaper (UK ceremonies only) for publication.  If you do not wish information about your award to be published please click OPT OUT when applying to graduate, no later than Thursday 28 May.

Please note that award classifications and distinctions will not be published for any Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught awards.

Please note that the University may film and photograph graduation events for promotional purposes.
