Tree-Trail-5-1000

5. Acer pseudoplatanus

The Sycamore tree is native to central Europe and Asia and can live for up to 450 years reaching 35 metres (115 feet) in height. It was introduced to Great Britain by 1500 and can tolerate wind and coastal exposure. It grows very easily from seed and can become quite invasive. These grand specimen parkland trees are around 23 metres (75 feet) tall. The timber is used for furniture, flooring, firewood and musical instruments, especially violins.
