3. Abies nordmanniana

The Nordmann Fir or Caucasian Fir grows to between 55 and 85 metres tall, (180 – 279 feet). This one has been planted as a permanent Christmas tree instead of buying a large cut one each year. We will prune this specimen as the years go by to maintain its height and shape. It is native to the Caucasus mountains at the intersection of Europe and Asia. It has been widely planted across Europe to mitigate expected forest decline caused by climate changes.

It is grown widely for use as a Christmas tree because of its attractive foliage and needles that are not too sharp and do not drop readily when the tree dries out. It is also used in general construction and for making paper.
